Stephen Frears’ The Queen

So I’ve watched that movie. Apart from the fact that Blair ended up being a war criminal (thanks to his illegal war to Iraq) I could like this guy in the early years of his government.

Perhaps the only movie that made me understand why most people in UK like kings and queens and why Blair is in power for so long. I really like his Juventus shirt, but as an antidote I’m now listening “God save the queen” by Sex Pistols. Spare me a chord please..

9 hours of Napoleon

6 hours in Napoleon and 2 hours in Waterloo (2nd time I watch this) plus one hour talking about the man that Bonaparte was.

My head is filled with Merde! that the soldier shouted, and with Vive La France and with the thousands of men that died only to please his ego.

I always liked the French better than the English, they were more of my style, so I confess I found the hatred of everything english in Napoleon quite amusing. Please note though that Bonaparte wanted to finish his life in Britain! So everything is relative. Please also note that my favorite food is French Fries and I cannot imagine myself calling those fries of freedom. Please also note that both movies were in English!

Wim Wenders’ Land of Plenty

Land of Plenty, do not miss it. Wim is an artist and John Diehl is an apocalypse for me. ****

Έχει καλές στιγμές ακόμα και μετά από 36 χρόνια. Όχι πάντως τίποτα πολύ σπουδαίο.

Ωραίο πέρασμα ο Orson Welles αν και για όσους θέλουν να τον απολαύσουν περισσότερο ας δουν το Mr. Arkadin

IMDB Mastorakis fun

It is just fun to read the comments for movies of Nico Mastorakis. Most films are called pathetic or nightmares. The best thing I found is:

Mike Figgis’ One Night Stand

One Night Stand is not as good as other masterpieces of Mike Figgis, such as Internal Affairs or Leaving Las Vegas, but it's still a pleasure to see his work and listen to his music.

Also it features Wesley Snipes in a "serious" role that I wish I could see more often from him and as hot chick Nastassja Kinski. Many great moments in that movie, and a somehow not usual scene where we see Wesley Snipes' character fucking with his wife and in the whole scence we see her giving him direction (with codes) on how to continue so she can come. CUT happens when she comes screaming. This must be the only holywood movie that has such a scene (usually we see the opposite, without directions as men mostly don't need many moves to come (or at least it's what women think.. cause orgasm from orgasm clearly differs).

Basic Instinct II

 

Από την πρώτη στιγμή βλέπεις την Στόουν να πασχίζει να δώσει μια φοβερή υπόσταση σε μια προηγουμένως (στο 1) χαλαρή περσόνα.

Η ατμόσφαιρα της ταινίας είναι αυτή του B movie, ενώ οι περισσότερες σκηνές δεν έχουν ούτε ερωτισμό, ούτε τρέλα. Δεν καταφέρνουμε να ταυτιστούμε καθόλου με το δράμα που περνάει ο ψυχίατρος, αλλά ούτε και να νιώσουμε την κάβλα του να θέλει να πηδήξει τη Στόουν (βλέπε Ντάγκλας στον 1).

Δεν είναι ότι δεν παίζουν καλά οι ηθοποιοί, είναι ότι το σενάριο είναι μάπα, και ειδικά μετά τα πρώτα 50 λεπτά σε αφήνει ξεκρέμαστο να σκέφτεσαι τι βλέπεις:

• Ταινία με σήριαλ κίλερ;
• Ταινία με ερωτικά πάθη;
• Πορνό κακής ποιότητας;
• Θρίλερ;

για να καταλήξεις ότι τελικά δε βλέπεις τίποτα παραπάνω από μια λάθος μεταφορά της κουλτούρας των '90s στα '00s. Όταν η ταινία βγήκε έκανε καλό γιατί ήταν καθαρά για το σεξ και την κάβλα και η κοινωνία έτσι ένιωθε έτοιμη να βγει από τις μλκς με το AIDS κλπ του 80. Δεκατόσα χρόνια όμως μετά, αν και το βασικό ένστικτο παραμένει, το βασικό ένστικο ΙΙ νιώθει αμήχανο κι σε αναγκάζει να βλέπεις την Στόουν να μιλάει και να ξαναμιλάει τη στιγμή που στο 1, δεν χρειαζόντουσαν πολλά λόγια, αλλά απλά ο ιδρώτας/κούραση/καύλα του Ντάγκλας. Νομίζω τα 3 δευτερόλεπτα που την βλέπουμε με τον παγοθράστη αρκούν να τα πουν όλα για αυτή τη ταινία.
